Radegast Extra Bitter special edition beer is going to change „penalty time“ benches to „extra bitter“ benches

„Reactions to the special brew were very positive last year, and that was the main reason why we are making more this year. The fans can look forward to its significant hop bitterness, which still stays very pleasant and is adequately accompanied by its full–body malty taste,“ says Ivo Kaňák, Radegast brewery manager, describing the taste of the special brew while adding that the significant bitterness is typical for all Radegast beers. „We are staying faithful to the heritage of the first master–brewer Jaromír Franzl, who gave Radegast beers their characteristic bitterness. We brought out even more of this attribute in the special edition. While the bitterness of ordinary lagers is somewhere around level 30, Radegast Extra Bitter has 42 degrees of bitterness.“

Nošovice brewmasters brewed the special beer in a way that is typical for traditional Radegast beers. In addition to pure Morávka river water, their own malt, and their own brewer’s yeast, they added an extra large portion of first–class hops – Saaz semi–early hops.

Radegast Extra Bitter brew has its own godfather, too. It is Petr Pohl, player of HC Vítkovice Steel, who is the least penalised player on the team. And why him? Marek Málek, Radegast brand manager explains: „Radegast Extra Bitter is going to support fair play in hockey rinks. We are going to change the name „penalty benches“ to „bitter benches“ in select stadiums. The teams with the least penalty minutes will take home with them a keg of the special brew after all January and February matches.“

Petr Pohl will taste the special edition of the beer for the first time on Thursday, January 12, at 6:00 pm in the restaurant Helbich in Ostrava. Other team players, such as Viktor Ujčík and Tomáš Voráček, will join him. The event will also be graced by the presence of Olympic winner David Moravec. All fans of hockey and extra bitter beer are cordially invited.
