Our sustainable development strategy
Our sustainable development strategy is based on seven areas - priorities where we see an important role for Plzeňský Prazdroj to play and for which we have set goals until 2020. Each of these seven streams also allows us to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
History
Priority:
To take care of historical heritage to be able to hand it over to next generations.Highlights from 2017:
We welcomed a record number of visitors in our breweries, supported historical trains to Nošovice Brewery and re-opened the train route to the brewery in Velké Popovice.
Objectives up to 2020:
We will continue to invest in preserving historic buildings, collections and sources. We will continue to open our breweries to the general and professional public.
Ingredients
Priority:
To support responsible and sustainable land use for growing brewing crops.Highlights from 2017:
We purchased 100% of barley from domestic suppliers. Nearly 70% was bought directly from the growers. We supported research activities in the area of brewing raw materials by almost 2 million CZK.
Objectives up to 2020:
We will continue to adhere to the responsible supplier principles while complying with the maximum quality requirement. Correct relations, sustainability and fair conditions continue to be the underlying principles of our collaborations and partnerships.
Brewing, packaging, and distribution
Priority:
To provide/ ensure water resources for our breweries and local communities To reduce waste and CO2 pollution.Highlights from 2017:
In comparison with last years numbers, we reduced water consumption from 3.1 to 2.9 hl per hl of beer. Direct consumption of energy in our breweries decreased from 92.3 to 78 MJ / hl.
Objectives up to 2020:
We will monitor the supplies of water we share with local communities. By 2020 we will decrease our water consumption to 2.8 hl per hl of beer. We will continue to strive to reduce our carbon footprint and head toward zero-waste operations. By2020 we want to reach Total Direct Energy consumption lower than 88 MJ / hl.
Support of small businesses and Czech beer culture
Priority:
To accelerate social development and growth via our supplier chain.Highlights from 2017:
Our development and education programs were attended by over a thousand owners of pubs and restaurants and nearly 2,000 retailers.
Objectives up to 2020:
Working with our customers, we will set our development plans in terms of the direction of future business (quality of outlets, volumes, services), which we will assess on a regular basis, responding jointly to opportunities.
Employees
Priority:
To be an attractive employer who takes care of its employees and the development of talents.Highlights from 2017:
We increased the representation of women in management by 3% to the current 33%. We have doubled our contribution to retirement savings.
Objectives up to 2020:
We will continue to increase our attractiveness for potential employees. We will continue to develop professional skills of our people.
Responsible drinking
Priority:
To make beer a natural choice for moderate and responsible consumers.Highlights from 2017:
We involved almost one million people in our projects to prevent children from drinking alcohol. This is a 9% increase compared to 2016.
Objectives up to 2020:
We will strive to reach all consumers of our beers with effective communication campaigns and partner activities. Their aim will be to encourage moderate beer consumption. (The aim of these programs is to encourage moderate beer consumption.)
Patronage
Priority:
To be a good neighbour in regions where we do business.Highlights from 2017:
We distributed over 6 million CZK through our charity programmes.
Objectives up to 2020:
We will continue to invest in community projects that need our assistance.
