550 hl of Pilsner Urquell sold during Sunday’s Rolling Stones concert
“Comparing this so far largest music event of its
kind with last year’s Ozzfest, where we sold over 320 hl of beer, this is
an absolute record. It means that, on average, every concertgoer had
approximately one glass of Pilsner Urquell,” says Josef Krysl, manager
of Plzensky Prazdroj’s technical services, in assessing the Rolling
Stones concert from his own perspective. According to Krysl, selling beer
at giant music events has its specifics. “It is important to prepare the
largest possible capacity beforehand to be able to satisfy – in a
relatively short time – the enormous numbers of thirsty visitors who
arrive at the concert site. You see, once the main band starts playing,
people would rather give up satisfying their longing for beer than leave
their place near the stage they had fought so hard to win.”
The most extensive beer tapping system ever was
built for the Rolling Stones concert: a capacity of 320 taps, with 900 hl
of Pilsner Urquell brought to the site in truck cisterns and barrels. The
size of the system employed for drawing beer is also unique in comparison
with the largest music festivals all over Europe.
The beer was sold without any problems, including
peace and order during the concert.
